The capital Hanoi and Da Nang City were recently ranked by the famous American travel magazine Lonely Planet among the 7 best destinations in Southeast Asia for solo travelers.

Despite being one of the smaller sub-regions in the world, Southeast Asia is surprisingly diverse in culture and landscape, according to Lonely Planet.

For solo travelers - beginners and seasoned travelers alike - Southeast Asia has all the makings of a destination that can meet their needs. With a network of flights, trains and buses, it is easy to reach the smallest provinces for independent exploration. All of this adds up to a memorable experience for travelers.

While cost and safety are often concerns for solo travelers, Southeast Asia is a strong suit. Single rooms in budget accommodation are easy to find, and a great way to meet and socialize with people. “Local transport, affordable street food and low crime rates in most cities,” Lonely Planet says of Southeast Asia. With so many exciting destinations to choose from, Lonely Planet has narrowed down the options to seven of the best places to stay for solo travellers: Singapore, Penang (Malaysia), Da Nang and Hanoi (Vietnam), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Bangkok (Thailand), Bali (Indonesia).

Ranked third on the list, Da Nang is considered the best destination for a beach vacation and a gateway to diverse experiences. “Da Nang’s gracefully curved coastline is stunningly beautiful, highlighted by the majestic Guanyin Statue on Son Tra Peninsula,” the magazine commented.

In particular, coastal hotels here often maximize room views with large windows, balconies and infinity pools, giving visitors impressive experiences. The average price for each room is similar at around VND 1,000,000. In terms of transportation, visitors can book a taxi or a technology car at a relatively reasonable price based on the distance traveled.

Ranked 6th, Hanoi is considered the best destination for its peaceful, simple feel. Despite being a top tourist destination for decades, the Vietnamese capital is one of the few cities in Southeast Asia that has maintained its status and number of visitors.

Hanoi always brings a feeling of authenticity, simplicity, but also freshness. The daily life of the locals is always simple and plain. And it is this unadorned appeal that has won the love of international friends.

Strolling through the Old Quarter, visitors will see before their eyes a colorful maze of streets, small alleys, countless shops selling all kinds of goods, or charming street food stalls. Stop for a break at one of the local cafes and order a cup of coffee with milk, best enjoyed on a short stool while watching the streets here.

And especially every weekend, Hoan Kiem walking street is bustling with interesting public activities, music events, festivals, fairs... Visitors can freely participate in any activity to experience the culture, while creating opportunities to interact and connect with locals as well as tourists.

Hanoi is also the starting point for the journey to explore neighboring destinations in the North. Take a cruise to admire the ocean, the impressive limestone mountains of Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay; be surprised by the picturesque natural scenery with mysterious caves in Ninh Binh; or experience hiking to see the breathtaking terraced fields, learn about indigenous culture... all will certainly create a complete experience for visitors.
